Healing Waters Volunteer Open House

It's That Time of Year Again!
Time to dust off those river shoes and bottles of SPF
50 sunscreen and start thinking about our 2009 rafting
season! The schedule is nearly complete, the snow is
falling and waiting to flow into the South Fork, and
the Healing Waters crew is preparing for 11
completely full weekends on the river. Each year we
invite our Healing Waters family to the office for
our New Volunteer Drive. You all know that we can't
do it without you! And you all know how important
our new volunteers are each season. You may have
friends who always ask what it is you do when you
leave the city for the weekend, or maybe you're
someone who's been on a trip with us as a
participant and now you'd like to be a part of the
action. Here's the chance for all those people to
see how we do it and sign up for a volunteer
training!

Guide School 2009: Open for Registration!
Guide
School 2009: Open for Registration!
Join us
this Spring! Experience the satisfaction of not only
guiding a paddle team through rapids, but of learning a
new skill that will allow you to open up a new world
for people living with HIV and AIDS.
Healing Waters is conducting a
whitewater Guide School for individuals who are
interested in learning how to become paddle-raft guides
on Class III rivers. Over the course of our school you
will learn the skills required to safely navigate a
boatload of passengers downstream. We will teach you
about hydraulics, ferry angles and safety talks. You
will learn how to scout rapids, read water and get
downstream without too many unplanned stops.
We will accept a maximum of twelve
students in our
Guide School to insure highly individualized attention
and are especially looking for individuals who enjoy
spending time outdoors and playing in the water and who
are interested in contributing back to Healing Waters
as a volunteer in the future. Previous rafting
experience is not a requirement to attend Guide School.
The deadline for registration for the Spring 2009 Guide
School is March 4.
For more information, schedule and costs, please
contact the Guide School coordinator at
